Some of the distillation towers are coated with fluoropolymer on the inner surface. The main purpose for the coating is adding chemical resistance. When filling the inside with ceramic or any materials, the thickness of the thicker coating may be required to protect from the scratch.
In addition, in the process for the distillation of waste solvents, we have to consider the decrease in thermal conductivity due to the adhesion of residues and the difficulty of cleaning. In these cases, the fluoropolymer coating can be useful because of its property of excellent heat resistance and non-stick.
